From Linda Wolfson and the Community Forum:
SUPPORT RESPONSIBLE TAX ABATEMENTS IN ST. JOSEPH COUNTY!
The economy is troubled, and St. Joseph County faces a budget crisis. Especially in times like these, any tax subsidies provided by the County must use taxpayers' dollars wisely and bring needed benefits to our community.
On Tuesday October 14, a public hearing will be held before the St. Joseph County Council on Bill 90-08, an ordinance establishing tax abatement procedures and general standards for St. Joseph County. This bill, introduced by Councilman Mark Catanzarite, represents a responsible approach to tax abatement. The Community Forum for Economic Development is supporting this ordinance and we invite you to become involved in the following ways.
1. Attached to this email is an informational flyer about the ordinance. It contains more detailed information about the ordinance. Please use it to spread information about responsible tax abatements to your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and members of organizations in which you participate. Both the flyer and the complete ordinance are posted on our website, www.communityforum.typepad.com. If you need multiple copies of the flyer or have questions or suggestions about the ordinance, please contact us at sjc.cfed@gmail.com.
2. Please communicate your views to the nine members of the County Council and especially to the Councilman representing your Council District. There is broad support for responsible and accountable use of public money for private investment. Our elected representatives need to hear from us! Contact information for each of the County Council members is included in the informational flyer.
3. Plan to attend the St. Joseph County Council meeting at 7 pm on Tuesday, October 14. It will be held in the Council Chamber on the 4th floor of the County City Building. Your presence sends a strong message to the Council members. Your testimony, should you decide to speak, allows your full participation in a process that could improve our County.
